Brilliant. Unique. Chic. Personal. Intimate. Untraditional… FUN!
What a day! Nya and Chris looked like rock stars and partied just like them! They wanted their special wedding day to break away from the traditional norms and celebrate with family and friends in style. And indeed, they sure did!
Gorgeous weather, loving family, beautiful and supportive people on their wedding party and the eyes of their wedding planner, Melissa Dagar, ensured Nya and Chris quite a successful day. And beyond that, the bond that was seen between them both literally brought me to tears (yup, had no idea what was happening to me). Seeing the look on Chris’ face as Nya was walking down the aisle with her parents gave me goosebumps. Its hard to describe the look on his face but I’m just glad Nya got a glimpse. And Nya… WOW! She was a knock out! We carried herself with grace and beauty all day. We had bystanders trying to take pictures of them (if not with them) and I counted 4 people who actually video taped them walking around (what would they do with that?). Their Performance Works reception was fabulous! Emotional speeches, a hilarious video (for all you who remember the 90s, Nya and her sister were on that awesome TV show “Kids Street”, you know, the one with the mound of toys?! They totally won!), a beautifully written song, sung by a good friend and a heart warming father-daughter dance, I was moved throughout the whole day… yep, this wedding goes down as one of my most favorite weddings ever!
What more can I say about their exceptional wedding day. Both Ral and I truly feel honored that we were able to take part. I think I can rave on and on but I wanted to share a few pieces of their speeches, they were fantastic and really exemplified Nya and Chris being, Nya and Chris. (I asked Nya and Chris for a copy ’cause we couldn’t get over it – thanks lovebirds!). Its funny because everyone who knows me knows that I prefer an action movie over chick flicks (enter Ral) but these speeches struck me. Observing and photographing them helped us see into what they were all about. How Chris would sit beside Nya and watch her as if she didn’t know he was there or how Nya would laugh and hug Chris with a look of enjoyment and bliss to seal that hug… I’m getting wordy…
Please enjoy!
Chris’ Speech:
Every day I wake up, my life just keeps gettin’ better and better. Nya you make every day so amazing and worth living. You are such a beautiful, generous, talented, kind, loving person. I can’t imagine my life without you. Even going for a day without seeing you or talking to you hurts me so much. (K, now that’s love!) You are my everything bubus. And I will never forget your words on the first night we stayed together….”you’re not going to get lucky with me buddy….” And you know what maybe I didn’t that night, but let me tell you that I am the luckiest man alive and it’s all because of you!!!” I love you!!!
Nya’s Speech:
This was one of the toughest things I have ever had to write…I thought how do you quantify love? How do you take a feeling and turn it into words? So here’s what I came up with…
When I was a little girl, your name was Ken. We lived in our long yellow motor home; I wore a tiara & went by the name Barbie.
When I was 10, your name was Joey MacIntyre & your face was plastered all over my bedroom in the form of New Kids on the Block posters on my wall & I fell asleep nightly to Step by Step playing in my headphones.
When I was a teenager, your name was Terje Haakonsen. I admired your athletic ability, studied your videos, pictures & owned everything with your name on it. I spent every weekend on the mountain; with hopes of one day becoming so good at snowboarding I would meet you.
When I was in my early twenties, your name was Leonardo Dicaprio & I pined to be floating with you on the Titanic.
What I didn’t realize then, was that was I dreaming about you for the 26 years before I met you. I dreamt of my perfect man, one whom I could travel with, enjoy music with, enjoy sports together & who loved me, my family & friends unconditionally…. Lucky for me, it seems that dream has come true.
To my “husband” thank-you for coming into my life at a time when I never thought that you existed other then in storybooks & my dreams. You have taught me what real love is, what it means to be cherished and to have someone love you for simply being you. I have found home in your arms & never want to leave.

Nya and Chris, you guys are superstars! Your wedding set the tone for quite a future and we know that family is definitely so important to you both. We truly admire that. You both are so full of life. Thank you for sharing a piece of your future with us! We are thankful for you, Nya and Chris. =)
I’m gonna go hug the guts out of Ral now…
